Financial support for refugee mothers

Our Settle Well team supports students and mothers from refugee backgrounds to thrive in their Geelong community. This means providing opportunities for community participation, support to reach their employment and education goals, and other essential services.

With the cost of living currently so high, and limited financial support available, the refugee mothers in our Settle Well program have recently been visited by our Emergency Relief program Team Leader, Annie.

Last week, Annie met with the mothers from our Geelong Settle Well CALD Women’s Group at North Geelong Secondary College, to tell them about the financial support available to them.

This week, mothers from the group received vouchers from our Emergency Relief program including Coles, fuel and all-purpose Visa vouchers, to support their family with food, travel and other necessities.

The refugee mothers also received vouchers to spend at the Geelong Food Relief Centre, where on Wednesday morning they were free to roam the centre and choose from a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables, pantry and fridge goods, and toiletries.

We thank the Geelong Food Relief Centre for welcoming our CALD Women’s Group with open arms, and supporting the mothers during their positive shopping experience at the centre.

Below you’ll see some great photos from the mothers’ visit to the Geelong Food Relief Centre!
