Twenty years of chaplaincy at Port Phillip Prison

Earlier this year, Sr Mary O'Shannassy, Director of CatholicCare's Prison Ministry, was recognised with an Order of Australia medal for her 'service to the community through church and social welfare bodies' and everyone at CatholicCare was proud as punch.

Last Friday, Sr Mary added a new pin to her collection.

At a reception centre in Laverton, Port Phillip Prison celebrated its 20th anniversary and Sr Mary was one of 24 people acknowledged for 20 years of service to the prison. Among those receiving commemorative pins were correctional staff and health service staff - but Sr Mary was the only chaplain who has been with the prison since it opened 20 years ago.

"It was great recognition of chaplaincy and I feel very honoured to receive it on behalf of all the chaplains who have been at Port Phillip Prison over the last 20 years," said Sr Mary.

CatholicCare is proud to congratulate Sr Mary on receiving this recognition.
