School students helping to transform lives this Family Week

Pope Francis from his address to the United Nations, Clementine Hall, 2013 said,

“Over and over again we see that family bonds are essential for the stability of relationships in society, for the work of education, and for integral human development, for they are inspired by love, responsible intergenerational solidarity, and mutual trust. These are factors that can make even the most adverse situations more bearable and bring a spirit of trust fraternity to our world, enabling it to feel as a single family, where the greatest attention is paid to those most in need.”

After a year when many of us were separated from our families due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s Family Week in May was a perfect chance to come together and celebrate the important role our families, in whatever form they take in our lives.

School in action this Family Week

Each year CatholicCare invites Catholic schools throughout Victoria to join in Family Week celebrations. The response we have had from schools this year has been outstanding with over 125 schools who registered to take part in Family Week 2021.

Family Week this year was also an opportunity for our school communities to put faith into action and raise funds to support some of the most vulnerable families in our community.

The ingenuity and care so many students and teachers put into Family Week celebrations and fundraising activities was truly inspiring! We had family Mass, walk-a-thons, wheel-a-thons, bake sales, car washes, family breakfasts, coffee carts, photo booths, and so much more taking place.

All the funds raised by schools during Family Week 2021 have gone towards providing CatholicCare’s vital programs and services to assist refugee and asylum seeker families to settle well in Victoria. So far schools has raised over $7,000 and donations are still coming in!

We are so grateful to each and every person who made a donation to CatholicCare this Family Week. Your support is helping to transform lives! We can’t thank you enough.
