Seasons 5-18 Years Peer Support Program

Seasons™ Loss and Grief

Seasons-Logo-150The 5-18 Peer Support program provides opportunities for children and young people to share their personal stories of loss of a significant other, as a result of death or separation, and explore their reactions to grief in a supportive group setting. The Seasons program draws on the experiences of each participant. With the help of trained facilitators, known as Companions, participants share their personal stories, and in doing so are able to express their reactions to grief and learn positive skills for living with their loss.

Seasons is offered through schools, and often becomes an important part of the school’s well-being and pastoral care program. Seasons is also available to parishes, community settings and is offered as an adjunct support service with other CatholicCare programs where children experience family dysfunction or separation, including Family and Relationship Counselling, Family Dispute Resolution, Parenting Orders Program, School Refusal Counselling. Our Refugee and Settlement Program relies on the Seasons Program to assist newly arrived families with children who have feelings of loss and grief associated with pre-migrations experiences of torture, trauma and separation or death of a close family member.
