New educational Family Law videos from the VFLPN

The Victorian Family Law Pathways Network (VFLPN) is an Australian Government initiative providing networking opportunities, professional development, and information for professionals working in the family law system.

The VFLPN also provides information to families and individuals navigating the family law system, helping them to find and access the supports they need.

Recently the VFLPN has been collaborating with family law professionals across Victoria to create educational videos for both clients and professionals in the family law system.

So far these videos have covered topics including Family Dispute Resolution and Children’s Services, but their most recent video on Family Counsellors was made in collaboration with one of our very own staff at CatholicCare Victoria - Alan Baker, Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.

The VFLPN - improving coordination and knowledge between organisations

Separating and separated families often face a range of problems, and need a variety of legal and non-legal advice and support.

Building strong relationships and networks between professionals helps form a responsive and informed service for separating and separated families trying to navigate the family law system.

The VFLPN aims to improve coordination between organisations within the family law system, as well as provide information to families regarding family law services.

At CatholicCare Victoria we are funded to manage the Victorian Family Law Pathways Network in Greater Melbourne, Ballarat and Bendigo/Shepparton, but there are over 30 Family Law Pathways networks across Australia and a total of six in Victoria.

Each of these networks are made up of a group of multi-disciplinary professionals aiming to improve collaboration between organisations and individuals in the family law system.

All professionals working within the family law sector are welcome to join the Victorian Family Law Pathways Network as a member. VFLPN members can include:

  • allied workers that support families with children
  • counsellors
  • court officers
  • family dispute resolution practitioners
  • judges
  • lawyers

Educational videos by the VFLPN

The VFLPN has created 10 educational videos to date, collaborating with organisations such as Relationships Australia and the Australian Children’s Contact Service Association.

Their most recent video in collaboration with us at CatholicCare Victoria – Family Counsellors under the Family Law Act (1975) – discusses the role, definition, and obligations of a Family Counsellor under the Family Law Act.

Coming soon is a new video on Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) Practitioners under the Family Law Act, featuring one of our FDR Practitioners Beth Devlin – so keep a look out! One of our Family Counsellors, Michelle Phan, will also be featured in an upcoming video on Parenting Orders Programs.

The VFLPN will continue to collaborate with both CatholicCare Victoria and other organisations in the family law sector to create educational videos, and we’re excited to see more of these as they are released.

You can view the VFLPN educational videos on their website below, or learn more about the VFLPN by visiting our webpage.
