We know that 2020 was a particularly stressful year for students and parents alike.
As the new school year begins for 2021, there may still be some anxiety for families around a number of issues, but it is important to remember you’re not alone!

Parents, here’s a few quotes to keep your mind at ease this year:
- Everyone is in the same boat
Learning and education was impacted by COVID-19 for everyone at your child’s school (and for students all over Victoria and the world!) so don’t worry too much about whether your child has ‘fallen behind’. If you have serious concerns or think your child requires learning support, contact your child’s teacher/school. - Everything will work out
2020 was a bumpy road, but despite any challenges you and your child faced, you got through them together! Let’s hope that 2021 will be a smoother school year, but remember that you and your child have the resilience to face whatever comes your way. - Help is just around the corner
It is completely okay to ask for help when you need it – remember, you’re not expected to have all the answers! Don’t be afraid to make contact with your child’s teacher or school; form a Messenger or WhatsApp group with other parents; and contact your school’s wellbeing staff or CatholicCare if you need professional support. - It’s okay if your child is struggling to get back into school
It’s not abnormal for students to experience some anxiety around attending school or if they’re struggling to get organised. View some quick tips on how to support your child here. - You are exactly what your child needs
Remember that you’re doing the best that you can! Don’t compare yourself to other parents and don’t compare your child to others either. Everyone is unique, and you are providing the care and support that is best for your child.
