Last Friday 29 June Archbishop Denis Hart announced his retirement after 17 years of faithful service to the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
His retirement is accompanied with the announcement of the newly appointed Archbishop – The Most Reverend Peter Comensoli who has served as the third Bishop of Broken Bay in New South Wales.
From 2011 to 2014, The Most Rev Peter Comensoli was an Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and the Titular Bishop of Tigisi in Numidia. On 20 November 2014, Pope Francis appointed Comensoli as Bishop of Broken Bay 12 December 2014.
The new Archbishop will take up his appointment 1 August 2018.
