Vietnamese Couples Program
Marriage and Relationship Education
Many Vietnamese community groups were consulted in the development of CatholicCare’s Vietnamese Couples Program. The feedback from the Vietnamese community to the Vietnamese workers was used to design and resource a program that would be most relevant to Vietnamese couples in Australia.
All materials used are written in Vietnamese.
The topics explored in the program include:
- The families we grew up in
- Differences between a man and a woman and Personality Differences
- Communication and Understanding
- Conflict and its Causes
- Roles of Husband and Wife
- Between Two Cultures
- Intimacy and Sexuality
The program is facilitated in Vietnamese by trained, professional workers. A Vietnamese lunch is provided.
This program has had excellent feedback. Some of the participant comments include:
- “I understand more about my partner that I did before the program. It was excellent”.
- “We discussed issues not normally discussed at home such as conflict and sexuality.”
- “Understanding the new culture was very helpful as well as discussing our sexual relationship.”
- “The facilitators are very open.”
This is an excellent opportunity for Vietnamese couples to explore their relationship strengths and differences to assist in building a healthy and growing marriage.
