Secondary RE Curriculum Links
Family Week 2010
The secondary RE curriculum can support student learning in Family Week. Here are some suggestions for certain year levels where there are direct links between the content and this year’s Family Week theme.
Year 7 – Content Strand - Church and Community
Unit 2a – School and Church Communities
By the end of this unit, it is intended that the students appreciate the local community, their Church community and its connection to their school.
One of the aims is for students to recognise the need for members of a community to feel a sense of belonging. It is also intended that they appreciate the need for cooperation among members of a community in order for social cohesion to take place. They will also recognise the ways in which they are called to be members of a larger community with a common purpose. It is hoped they will develop some sense of the challenges experienced by a leader of a community or a group.
Year 8 – Content Strand – Church and Community
Unit 2a – Participating in the life of the church
It is intended that students will be able to suggest ways in which they are a part of larger groups with important roles to play within the church and the wider society. They will attempt to recognise the reasons that people offer service in the Church. They will be able to grasp the role of ministry and its many forms of service in the church; and the role of church agencies such as Centacare who offer support services to the wider community.
Year 10 – Content Strand – Morality and Justice
Unit 5A – Personal Moral Responsibility
It is intended that students acknowledge the varied degrees of moral responsibility in the decisions and actions taken by individuals. It is also intended that they are able to articulate values which motivate action and guide choices in the pursuit of moral maturity.
